Y6 Music Lesson - Week 4 - 11.05.20

Hi

I hope you manage to master the finger fitness from last week.

Here's a new one. It starts off easy, but then it gets harder. Good Luck!

Remember, 'If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try again.'

UNSQUARE DANCE by Dave Brubeck

Last week we mastered counting in 7's and accompanying the Unsquare Dance with two different ostinato rhythms.

This week we are going to PLAY A TUNE.

If you have a xylophone or keyboard at home you can use those.

HOW TO HAVE A XYLOPHONE of KEYBOARD AT HOME IF YOU DON'T HAVE ONE!

Download the Free App - EasyXylo on ipads or iphones

OTHERWISE - you can click this link, which will take you to a virtual piano.

Or

If you have an android phone or tablet you can look up virtual xylophone and see what FREE apps are available.

Or

MAKE YOUR OWN. You will need 5 bottles/glasses and a teaspoon.

Fill each with different levels of water.

Change the level of the water to match the pitch on the clip. Click here to get the right pitch.

You are going to need the sounds of C D E G A. Label them, put them in order C D E G A, and tap on them with a spoon to make the correct sound.

Now you have your tuned instrument.

Have a LISTEN first to REMIND yourself of the tune of the Double Bass ostinato, because this is what we are going to be playing.

SING the Bass repeated pattern as you listen, with a 'Dum, Dum, Dum'

Or sing the notes that you are going to play (see the grid below)

PLAY YOUR INSTRUMENTS

I want you to practise playing the following from the grid on your instruments.

If you imagine the two claps from the rhythms last week in column 6 & 7 it might help with keeping you in time.

Once you have got the hang of the notes that you are playing.

JOIN IN with the Music Clip and PLAY ALONG, just repeating the pattern in the grid, over and over.

CUPS

Watch the clip and see if you can do the rhythm activity with a plastic cup.

EASIER VERSION to start

I would start by only doing Part 1 and then for Part 2 I would tap the table with both hands 4 times.

Say the words as you do the actions.

1. Clap Clap Ta-ble Ta-ble Clap Up Down

2. 1 2 3 4 (tap the table with both hands for each count)

CHALLENGE

1. Clap Clap Ta-ble Ta-ble Clap Up Down

2. Clap Sweep Top Table Bottom Hand Down

REMEMBER

Say the words, take it slowly at first and 'Practise makes Progress.'

It may take a while to be able to do this.
