Red Class - Guess how many?

Today we are going to look at Estimation. We have already learnt this word in Maths. Can you remember what it means? It means having a good guess. For this activity you will need some beans/seeds. Don't worry if you haven't got any; pasta, rice, anything you can count will do. Grab some and put it in a container or jar, but don't count them! How many do you think are in the jar? Remember to try to have a sensible guess. Once you have decided on a number, check by counting how many there are.

How did you do? Were you close? Have some more goes at estimating!

Jasper's Beanstalk, featured the days of the week. Watch this song to help you learn the days of the week.

Once you have learnt the days of the week, can you say what day comes after Thursday? What day comes before Tuesday? How many days are there in a week?

ART Here are some activities you can try doing. Make a seed/ bean collage. You will need some seeds/beans or lentils and glue. Have a look at these:

Or how about making your own musical shaker. You will need an empty plastic bottle with a lid and some beans/seeds/ pasta. Fill your beans in the bottle about half way and put the lid on. You can decorate your shaker. If you have lots of different bottles , what do you notice happens to the sound when you put more/less beans in them? What happens when you use different types of beans/pasta?

Try using different things to fill your bottles.

I hope you have fun making your very own shakers!
